DESIGNING PATH OF A MASTERPIECE
by Giancarlo Zema
Giancarlo Zema, born in 1973, takes a degree in the prestigious architecture faculty La Sapienza University in Rome with the architect Giovanni Zuccon, a renowned name in the empire of naval architecture, and follows his own inclination towards nature, seeking for shapes and ways to be totally new in his cooperation with architects' studies and big foreign companies, enriching his professional growth in the naval architecture and industrial design fields.

His philosophy of extreme innovation, of curiosity towards the water world and the research of amazing architectural solutions to invent the man's future is the reason of living of the Giancarlo Zema Design Group. With the fascinating vision of a future horizon in which life will approach the water, on and under it, and with the creation of inventive architectures the Zema study ferries the mankind literally from mainland to the seas. In imaginative living spaces in the water world, the study totally respects the nature and the environment, creating sinuous organic forms that resemble the marine creatures. These creatures-creations become nearly living beings able to transform themselves, thanks to the new technologies and to the use of eco-friendly materials.

The dynamic and flexible study was born in Rome in 2001, and works to plan semi-immersed structures, floating homes, yachts and interiors in a dramatically futuristic style that is at the same time extremely attractive. It is always absolutely thoughtful about the environment issues.

Using sophisticated graphic software and advanced technologies, the Zema study can produce tri-dimensional models and renderings of the finished work, to offer the customer a complete service from the concept to the least executive detail.

These livable creations have aroused great interest around the designer. Giancarlo Zema has appeared (and still appears) on the specialized and non specialized press, invited in international conferences together with worldwide famous architects, in TV programs (e.g. on History channel) from the whole world. To name an event, in 2007 beside names like Massimiliano Fuksas, the architect Zema has been invited to speak during the international AEC Architecture Convention in Mumbai-India, where he presented an amazing projects among his most innovative: the Amphibious 1000, the first top luxury semi-submerged hotel structure with floating suites. Since 2003 the Group has started a partnership with the ZLH (Pty) Ltd, a prestigious engineering study seated in South Africa, specialized in naval engineering.
