Late yesterday night I was talking this and that with Honoré de Balzac, the famous 19th Century French writer, and he told me, in his opinion, that
"The major part of men shows character imbalances, that cause continuous contrasts and deprive their lives of the harmony, which is the most beautiful ideal of common life; the major part of men, in fact, is full of meanness, and meanness leads to curse and suffering.
A man can be honest and active, but rough and rude; another one can be nice, but stubborn; he can love his wife, but he will be weak willed. Another one, pushed by ambition, will consider feelings only like duties and, giving on vanity of fortune, will be deprived of joy in all his days.
Finally, average men are not to be condemned, because they are rather incomplete.
Clever people are unpredictable like barometers, only the genius is substantially good.
That’s why you can find real happiness only at the edge of the moral scale. Only the beast or the genius are able, one for his weakness and the other for his strength, to maintain continuity of mood, of constant sweetness in which toughness of life disappears."
How could he be wrong!
I woke up this morning and I continued doing things I have been doing for the last 15 years: painting with magical decoration small and vast surfaces in private houses and locals, and designing furniture.
Searching constantly for my absolute, my genius and my beast.
